WHITE OAK WOOD:

American White Oak is a group of species that are sourced chiefly from the South & Central United States, including the Appalachian areas.

The white to very light brown sapwood is about 2-5cm wide and similar in colour to the heartwood, which is light tan to dark brown.

While the grain is usually straight, it may be irregular or cross, depending upon growth conditions and the wood is coarse-textured. Heartwood pores are usually plugged with tyloses, which tend to make the wood impenetrable by liquids. Quarter cutting results in veneer with straighter grain and more even colouring, and broad rays that can often produce a silver grain figure.
