316L Stainless Steel Sheet Description
316 and 316L stainless steel are common types of austenitic stainless steel. Molybdenum is added to the basic 304 steel, making 316 more corrosion-resistant and high-temperature resistant, especially suitable for more demanding environments. "L" stainless steel indicates low carbon content,316L is a low carbon variant of 316 stainless steel. The low carbon content makes 316L less prone to intergranular corrosion, which makes them more stable during high temperature welding.
316 and 316L stainless steel offer high creep strength, stress-to-rupture and tensile strength at high temperatures, as well as excellent corrosion resistance and strength properties.
316/316L stainless steel is ideally suited for applications requiring corrosion resistance superior to Grade 304 and has good elevated temperature strength.The low carbon content decreases carbide precipitation that sensitizes the grain boundaries of welds in these materials. The austenitic structure of 316L provides excellent toughness even at cryogenic temperatures.
