When the engine is activated (via stop/start button or traditional key), an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid. This component transfers charge from the battery to the starter motor, activating both the motor and the starter drive (Bendix gear system). The engaged flywheel cranks the engine to initiate combustion in petrol and diesel vehicles. Once operational, the mechanism disengages the starter motor from the gear and flywheel as the engine no longer requires the electrical spark.
