The Vertical Flame Spread Test Machine evaluates the flame retardancy of vertically installed bundled cables or optical cables according to IEC 60332-3-10 standards. Testing Methodology
Cable samples of specified length and quantity are bundled and mounted vertically within a 3500mm high stainless steel chamber. A 20.5kW propane burner applies flame from below for specified durations (20-40 minutes). Post-combustion char distance measurement determines flame retardancy classification.

  • Sample Ladder System: Two steel ladders (500mm × 3500mm and 800mm × 3500mm) for secure cable mounting

  • Gas Control: Adjustable air flow (10-100 L/min) and propane flow (2-20 L/min) via rotameters
  • Safety Systems: Automatic ignition, timed combustion control, gas cutoff, and forced fire sprinkler system
  • Automation: Remote ignition capability and automatic lifting device for specimen handling
Performance Evaluation
Flame retardancy is classified into categories A, B, C, and D based on sample configuration and test duration. Acceptance requires charred distance from burner center not exceeding 2.5 meters after combustion ceases.
