Q: Can a fan clutch be damaged by using an engine heater in cold weather?
A: No, an engine heater (used to warm the engine before starting) won’t damage the fan clutch. The heater warms the engine block and coolant, which helps the engine start faster—but it doesn’t affect the clutch’s internal parts (like oil or seals) unless the heater is faulty and overheats. In fact, a pre-warmed engine means the clutch won’t have to work as hard to bring the engine to operating temperature, which can slightly reduce wear.

Q: Why is frequent engine start-stop not recommended for truck fan clutches?
A: Frequent engine start-stop is bad for truck fan clutches because it causes silicone oil (in silicone types) to repeatedly solidify and thaw, accelerating oil degradation.
