Both polysorbate 60 and 80 belong to the polyoxyethylene sorbitan fatty acid esters family with distinct characteristics:
Polysorbate 60 appears as a yellowish waxy solid at room temperature, while Tween 80 is an amber viscous oily substance.
Tween 60 is soluble in water, methanol, ethanol, isopropanol, but insoluble in mineral and dynamic oils. It offers excellent emulsifying, wetting, foaming, and diffusion properties. Tween-80 shares similar solubility characteristics while providing comparable performance benefits.
Polysorbate 60 serves as a food additive, textile softener, antistatic agent, and component in pan spinning oil. Tween 80 functions as an emulsifier, dispersant, wetting agent, solvent, and stabilizer across pharmaceutical, cosmetic, food, and industrial applications.
