Description:

Quartered Figured English Fiddleback Sycamore Wood Veneer is a beautiful straight grained wood with nice embellishments. English Sycamore Veneer has a flame grain known for its "curly" and "fiddleback" figure. It is also called Great Maple.

Sycamore veneer, also known as figured European maple veneer, originated from the middle of Europe, is a hardwood veneer mainly used for top grade furniture surface making and top quality interior decoration.

For the European maple veneer, the natural wavy grains create the figure. Sycamore is found all over the Europe, but figure type is very rare and therefore expensive. Sycamore veneer must be dried quickly after slicing to avoid yellowing. It also has perfect mechanical processing performance, fast drying speed and good stability.

 European Sycamore, Sycamore Plane, European Maple or whatever you want to call this beautiful wood, unlike North American Maples, can be lustrous almost to the point of being iridescent. Keep in mind that it will eventually darken to a light golden brown. We do sell it as a substitute for holly. From what I understand, Great Britain is the largest single supplier of Sycamore. Harewood is Sycamore that has been dyed a silver-gray color. The dye is forced into the wood by the use of hydraulic pressure and, voila, you have Harewood! Sycamore was very popular for several years but lately it has taken a back seat to darker woods. We usually have plain sliced, plain quartered and/ or figured Sycamore in our inventory.
