Constantan Alloy Definition
Constantan is a resistance alloy featuring moderate resistivity and low temperature coefficient of resistance, with a flatter resistance/temperature curve over a wider range compared to manganin alloys. It offers superior corrosion resistance and is primarily used in AC circuits. Constantan serves as the negative element in Type J thermocouples (with iron as positive) for heat treating applications, and in Type T thermocouples (with OFHC copper as positive) for cryogenic temperature measurements.
