Boron carbide. The ability of boron carbide to absorb neutrons without forming long-lived radionuclides makes it attractive as an absorbent for neutron radiation arising in nuclear power plants and from anti-personnel neutron bombs. Nuclear applications of boron carbide include shielding, control rod and shut down pellets.

Boron Carbide, black powder, is the hardest of the conventional abrasives. Its Mohs hardness is 9.36, melting point 2350℃, density 2.52g/cm3.
It has following unique features: neutron absorbing, of semi-conductivity, low thermal conductivity, high grinding efficiency and no reaction with either acids or alkali etc.
