Plastic Fine Mist Sprayer with 20ml Capacity and Screw Closure for Nasal Application
Why Proper Technique Matters
Using nasal spray correctly is crucial for two main reasons:
-
Effectiveness: It ensures the medication reaches the sinuses and nasal passages where it's needed, rather than dripping down your throat.
-
Safety: It minimizes side effects and risks, such as nosebleeds or a perforated septum (a very rare but serious complication from improper use).
Step-by-Step Guide to Using Nasal Spray
Follow these steps for safe and effective use. It's best to do this over a sink.
Step 1: Preparation
-
Blow your nose gently to clear your nasal passages of mucus.
-
Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.
-
Shake the bottle if the instructions direct you to do so.
-
Prime the pump if it's a new bottle or hasn't been used in a while. Point the spray away from yourself and press down a few times until a fine mist appears.
Step 2: The Correct Position
-
Head Position: Tilt your head slightly forward. Do not tilt your head back.
-
Hand Technique: Use your opposite hand to administer the spray.
-
For your right nostril, use your left hand.
-
For your left nostril, use your right hand.
-
This helps angle the spray away from the sensitive nasal septum (the cartilage wall in the center of your nose) and towards the back of your head.
