Introduction
Ceramic, a non-organic material with much higher hardness than metallic parts, is a major engineering material. It offers a combination of good mechanical properties and electrical properties leading to a wide range of applications.
Aluminum Oxide, Al2O3 has an outstanding properties like superior mechanical strength, Vickers hardness, compressive strength, fracture toughness. Accordingly, it is wear resistant, and corrosion resistant. Because of it is a metallic oxide with well-formed crystal structure, the parts made from it have good performance of corrosion resistance, are insoluble in weak acid or alkaline solution, let alone normal water or medical fluid. The ceramic alumina parts are only slightly soluble in strong acid and alkaline solution.
One of ceramics is technical ceramics, which offers a good solution for demanding pumps. Alumina is the most commonly used ceramic material for pump components due to its low cost, excellent properties and long service longevity. Ceramic plungers or ceramic pistons are one kind of those pump components.
Alumina ceramic plungers, are formed by isostatic pressing or dry pressing technology. Grinding and polishing provide a uniform surface. Through long operation, there is no leakage or just low leakage because of the high wear resistance of alumina ceramics.
Usually alumina ceramic plungers use alumina material with purity 99%, whose performance and economic efficiency have been proven in application.
