1. Application:
The series is an integrated two-wire ultrasonic level meter continuous contactless liquid level measurement of liquids and solids. It consists of probes and electronic devices, both of which are leak-proof structure. This series of products can be widely used in metallurgical industry,
chemical, electricity.
2. Measuring principle
Ultrasonic Level Sensor with Indicator emits ultrasonic pulses transmitted through the transmission medium to the measured body surface, the reflection and then return through the medium of sound propagation to the receiver transducer to measure the ultrasonic pulse from transmitter to receiver propagation in the medium of sound propagation time. Sound transmission medium according to the speed of sound, can be called from the transducer distance to the object plane to determine the material level.

Note: When using to measuring solid level, the most energy of ultrasonic is absorbed or scattered by solid level, so the back wave is very little, the valid measuring range of solid level is about 50% of liquid level. And the valid measuring range of solid level is determined by the installing location and rang.

4. Mounting Tips
Proper mounting is critical for the successful operation of an ultrasonic sensor. Mounting mistakes are one of the most common installation pitfalls with ultrasonics. However, it doesn’t have to be difficult.
Here are a few practical guidelines that can help ensure trouble free installation for your ultrasonic level sensors.
- Make sure the face of the sensor is perpendicular to the target surface. If the sensor is a few degrees off perpendicular the target may not be detected.
- Mount the sensor in a location that provides an unobstructed column of air from the sensor to the target. Generally speaking you need a 3-4 foot diameter unobstructed column even at longer ranges. Stilling wells provide a good solution for liquid level applications where an unobstructed path to the target is difficult.
- Always mount the sensor above the highest anticipated target level by at least the minimum blanking distance. The blanking distance is usually between 4 – 12 inches depending on the model sensor you are using.
- Mount the sensor away from any fill spouts. Mounting too close to the spout could result in false readings. White noise can also be a problem, as it can interrupt the sound wave.
- Avoid mounting the sensor in the direct center of a tank if there is a domed top. The shape of the top could amplify small undesired signals inside the tank.
- Mount the sensor away for tank walls especially if the walls are corrugated or if there will be product buildup on tank walls.
- If the sensor will be mounted outdoors try to shade the sensor from direct sunlight. This can harm the sensor housing and cause overcompensation for temperature as the sensor heats up.
