The EDI module works by using mixed ion exchange resins to adsorb cations and anions in water. These adsorbed ions are then removed under the action of cation exchange membranes through direct current voltage. The system forms concentrated water chambers between cation and anion exchange membranes, with ion exchange resins positioned between the fresh and concentrated water chambers. As water flows through these chambers, the resins adsorb ions, while the electrodes provide a transverse DC electric field to drive the ions through the membranes, resulting in purified water in the fresh water chamber.
