The reducer is also called the size head. It is a chemical pipe fitting, which is mainly used for the connection of two different pipe diameters. At present, the popular reducers on the market mainly include concentric reducers and eccentric reducers two kinds.

Types of reducers
1. According to its radius of curvature: it can be divided into long radius elbow and short radius elbow. The long radius elbow refers to the outer diameter of the pipe whose radius of curvature is equal to 1.5 times, that is, R=. A short radius elbow means that its radius of curvature is equal to the outer diameter of the pipe, that is, R=.
2. According to the production method, it can be divided into pushing, pressing, forging, casting, etc.
3. According to the manufacturing standard, it can be divided into national standard, electric standard, water standard, American standard, German standard, Japanese standard, Russian standard, etc.
4. Divided into carbon steel, cast steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, copper, aluminum alloy, plastic, argon leaching, etc. by material.
The reducer is a kind of socket and insert pipe fittings. If the diameter specification of the reducer does not match the inner diameter of the process pipeline, the corresponding diameter reduction or expansion treatment should be carried out. Whether the pressure loss will affect the process flow. In order to prevent the installation of the reducer from affecting the distribution of the flow velocity field, resulting in pressure loss, thereby reducing the measurement accuracy of the electromagnetic flowmeter, the required central cone angle α is not greater than 15°, the smaller the better. There are two types: concentric and eccentric. Concentric reducers are generally used on vertical pipes; eccentric reducers are used for horizontal pipes, and attention should be paid to indicating whether the top is flat or the bottom is flat.

Reducers are mainly used in the following places:
1. When the flow rate of the fluid in the pipeline changes, such as increasing or decreasing, and the flow rate requirement does not change much, it is necessary to use a reducer.
2. The inlet of the pump is to prevent cavitation.
3. At the joints with instruments, such as flow meters and regulating valves, in order to cooperate with the joints of the instruments, reducers are also required.
