ASTM A269 TP304 Description
ASTM A269 is a standard developed by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), which specifies the standard specifications for seamless and welded stainless steel pipes for general service,which covers grades of nominal-wall-thickness, stainless steel tubing for general corrosion-resisting and low- or high-temperature service.
Grade 304 is a 300 series stainless steel austenitic, which has a minimum of 18% chromium and 8% nickel.Chromium is the basic element to make stainless steel corrosion resistance. When the chromium content in steel reaches about 12%, chromium reacts with oxygen in the corrosive medium to form a thin oxide layer on the surface of stainless steel, which can prevent further corrosion of the steel matrix.
