FENIX Immigration Art Museum Model: A Harmonious Blend of Tradition and Modernity
Unveiling History Through Architectural Innovation
In the heart of Rotterdam, the FENIX Immigration Art Museum emerges as a testament to architectural innovation, preserving the historical significance of the Fenix Warehouse while transforming it into a captivating museum. This project, commissioned by the Droom en Daad Foundation and designed by MAD Architects, a Model made by QZY Models, stands on the renowned Katendrecht Peninsula, historically significant for global population migrations.
The Challenge of Morphological Precision
Crafting the physical model of the FENIX Immigration Art Museum presented the initial challenge of precise morphological reproduction. The unique design elements, especially the "metal tornado" staircase, demanded meticulous attention. Exploring 3D printing for its intricate flow design, the complexity required four rounds of printing, three rounds of electroplating, and meticulous seam hiding to achieve the desired texture and visual effect.
Mastering Wood Texture Reproduction
Moving beyond the basic structure, replicating wood textures proved crucial. Traditional methods like spraying or applying wood veneer fell short of authenticity. Opting for hand-painting, guided by the expertise of our artisans, ensuring a faithful representation of the material's texture without compromising on seam visibility.
Colliding Eras: Aesthetic Values
The allure of the transformation project lies in the collision of past and present, exemplified by the futuristic rotating staircase and the historically rich old factory building. Our model delves deep into the nuanced recreation of surface textures, brilliantly capturing the stainless steel gloss of the stairs and employing aging techniques to restore the historical tension of the old factory.
Detailed Realism and Lighting Design
This architectural model intricately replicates the complex lighting design, demanding a natural effect while ensuring visibility in brightly lit exhibition halls. Using mirrored reflections for the water surface effect, the display remains focused on architectural brilliance, balancing realism and simplicity.
Ensuring Perfection: Packaging, Transport, and Installation
The journey doesn't end with model completion; meticulous packaging, secure transport, and precise installation become imperative. Ensuring model quality, adhering to professional packaging protocols, and collaborating closely for on-site assembly are the final steps in guaranteeing a flawless exhibition.
