The instrument measures color using CIE LAB color space:
- L (Lightness): 0 = black, 100 = white
- a (Red-Green): Positive values = red, Negative values = green, 0 = neutral
- b (Blue-Yellow): Positive values = yellow, Negative values = blue, 0 = neutral
