Operating Instructions
Surface Preparation
Apply coating to a suitable hardness plate (steel substrate) with sufficient area to maintain at least 25mm distance between measurement site and plate edges. Measure wet film thickness immediately after coating application.
Measurement Procedure
Secure the test plate on a level surface. Position the gauge with the smallest reading at the top, ensuring the eccentric wheel and maximum gap are above the wet film. Roll forward 180°, then reverse direction for another 180° rotation. Inspect where the central flange first contacts the wet film surface, record readings, and calculate the average.
Special Considerations
For finishes containing fast volatile solvents and low solid content, apply to freshly painted film and take multiple separate readings, calculating the average of individual measurements.
While primarily designed for flat test plates, this instrument can also be used on curved surfaces in field or factory applications, provided the substrate curvature doesn't affect measurement accuracy between the two concentric wheels.
