Surface set bits are still a favoured alternative for softer formations, or in highly abrasive ground where the balance in an impregnated bit between matrix erosion and diamond wear would be upset by the aggressive rock conditions.
The core drill bit with natural-surface set is mainly used to drill relatively complete medium to high -hard formulations. There are 15 to 100 diamonds set on the matrix surface.
It's mainly made up of particles of diamonds, steel body and carbide powder. And the diamonds are utilized for making complex shapes of drill bits.
