Product Description
The IC693CMM301 is a Genius Communications Module (GCM), an intelligent component designed for the Series 90-30 PLC. It enables global connections via a Genius communications bus, facilitating communication between Series 90-30 PLCs and other GE Fanuc PLC models. By using Genius bus controllers, seamless communication is achievable with Series 90-70, Series Six, and Series Five PLCs. A Genius Bus can link 0 to 32 devices, and it connects to the terminal board on the front of the GCM module.
The Genius communication module can be installed on a Series 90-30 CPU baseplate, an expansion baseplate, or a remote baseplate. However, for optimal performance of the IC693CMM301, it is recommended to set it up on the CPU baseplate. This module finds application in various scenarios, such as data monitoring by industrial computers and group-to-group communication among devices on the bus.
The IC693CMM301 Genius Communications bus features a noise-resistant network, ensuring fast transmission of real-time control data. Series 90-30 PLCs can connect to each other through a single Genius I/O serial bus, using standard twisted-pair, shielded cables that are daisy-chained between devices and terminated at both ends. Using the appropriate cable is crucial for ensuring the system's good performance.
Genius communication modules are equipped with LED indicators on the front, which are active during normal operation to show the module's status. The "OK" indicator reflects the status of the GBC module; it lights up once the power check is completed. The "COM" indicator displays the status of the Genius communications bus: a steady light indicates the bus is functioning properly. If the bus fails, this indicator blinks and eventually turns off, signifying bus errors and a loss of communication with the PLC.
A maximum of eight Enhanced Genius Communications Modules can be used in a Series 90-30 PLC system. The number of I/O circuits supported by a single Genius bus depends on the types of I/O devices in use and the CPU's memory capacity.
