Decanter Centrifuge for Coal Washing Slurry Dewatering

The Decanter Centrifuge for Coal Washing Slurry Dewatering is designed for continuous solid-liquid separation, coal fines recovery, slurry thickening, and process-water clarification in coal preparation plants.
It is suitable for coal washing wastewater, coal slime water, flotation tailings, thickener underflow, fine coal slurry, and process-water recycle systems. The centrifuge separates fine coal particles, clay, mud, and mineral solids from the liquid phase. Thickened solids can be sent to a filter press, belt filter, dryer, stockpile, or disposal section. How the Decanter Centrifuge Works
1. Coal Washing Slurry Feeding
Coal washing slurry enters the rotating bowl through a controlled feed pipe.
An agitated slurry tank is normally recommended upstream to prevent settling and maintain stable feed concentration.
2. Centrifugal Sedimentation
Inside the high-speed rotating bowl, centrifugal force separates coal fines, clay, mud, and mineral solids from the liquid phase.
The heavier particles settle against the bowl wall, while clarified liquid remains closer to the center.
3. Continuous Solids Conveying
The internal screw conveyor rotates at a controlled differential speed relative to the bowl.
This movement transports settled coal slime solids toward the conical end for continuous discharge.
4. Clarified Liquid Discharge
The separated liquid leaves through the liquid outlet.
It can be returned to the coal washing line, classification system, process-water tank, or further wastewater treatment.
5. Thickened Coal Slime Discharge
The concentrated coal slime, fine coal, clay, and mineral solids are discharged continuously from the solids outlet.
Recovered solids can be sent to a filter press, belt filter, dryer, stockpile, disposal section, or further recovery process.

Coal Particle Size and Fine Content
Fine coal, clay, and ultrafine suspended solids affect solids recovery, clarified-water quality, and throughput. Particle-size distribution should be checked before selection.
Slurry Solids Concentration
Coal washing slurry may fluctuate during operation. A buffer tank and controlled feed pump help maintain stable centrifuge performance.
Abrasion Condition
Coal slurry can contain sand, stone powder, clay, and other abrasive minerals. Wear-resistant protection is recommended for long-term operation.
Flocculant Compatibility
Flocculant may improve fine-particle capture and liquid clarity. Dosing type and dosage should be confirmed through slurry testing.
Clarified Water Requirement
If the clarified liquid will be reused directly in the washing circuit, the required suspended-solids level should be confirmed.
Continuous Coal Slime Thickening
The decanter continuously thickens coal washing slurry without batch interruption, making it suitable for large-volume coal preparation plant wastewater.
Fine Coal Recovery
Fine coal particles in wash water or flotation tailings can be recovered and concentrated, reducing material loss and improving solids handling.
Process-Water Recycle
Clarified liquid can be reused in coal washing, rinsing, classification, or slurry preparation, helping reduce fresh-water consumption.
Lower Filter Press Load
The centrifuge thickens slurry before filter pressing or belt filtration, reducing liquid volume and improving downstream dewatering efficiency.
Wear-Resistant Design
Coal slurry may contain sand, clay, stone powder, and abrasive mineral particles. Wear protection can be added to the scroll, feed zone, bowl cone, and solids discharge area.
Stable Operation for Variable Feed
Bowl speed, differential speed, pond depth, and feed rate can be adjusted according to slurry concentration, particle size, flow rate, and required liquid clarity.

Can a decanter centrifuge treat coal washing wastewater?
Yes. It can continuously separate fine coal particles, clay, mud, and suspended solids from coal washing water.
Can clarified water be reused?
Yes. Clarified liquid can often be returned to coal washing, classification, or slurry preparation. Further treatment may be added if stricter water quality is required.
Is wear protection necessary?
It is usually recommended. Coal washing slurry may contain sand, stone powder, and abrasive mineral impurities.
Is flocculant dosing required?
Not always. It depends on particle size, clay content, slurry concentration, and clarified-water target. Slurry testing is recommended.
Can the decanter replace a filter press?
The decanter is mainly used for continuous thickening and primary dewatering. A filter press or dryer may still be used when lower final moisture is required.
