5W5 Female D-sub socket connector with 5-pin solder cup termination, designed for cable applications requiring high current capacity.

D-type connectors typically feature two or more parallel rows of connections within a D-format metal shell. This design provides mechanical strength and limited electromagnetic screening, as the metal shells of both plug and socket make contact. Panel mounting connectors are secured using nuts with additional threading to prevent mating connectors from working loose. Free connectors can be equipped with backshells that offer screening capabilities and connect to cable screens, or provide protection and strain relief when made of plastic.

Standard connectors with two rows of pins (such as 9, 15, 25, and 37-way configurations) feature pins spaced approximately 0.108 inch (2.74 mm) apart, with rows spaced 0.112 inch (2.84 mm) apart. Higher pin counts and densities are achieved through additional rows of pins.
