What is differences between TP304 and TP304L?
TP304/304L is to indicate the material grade, where T and P are Tube and Pipe, which means tube.TP304/TP304L is a double grade material, and the common ones are TP316/316L.TP304 and TP304L are two kinds of materials, and the main difference of their chemical composition is the range of carbon content and nickel content.TP304L (where the L is Low) has an upper limit of 0.035% carbon content, which is lower (Low) than TP304. Carbon in steel provides strength, but according to the chromium depletion principle, chromium carbide precipitation will affect corrosion resistance, the higher the chromium carbide precipitation, the worse the corrosion resistance.
Because of the low carbon content can reduce the precipitation of chromium carbide, so the corrosion resistance of TP304L is higher than TP304. but the mechanical properties of the comparison, TP304 yield strength and tensile strength of the lowest value is higher than TP304L. TP304 / TP304L dual grade requirements is that the chemical composition of the material, the mechanical properties of the material can be simultaneously meet the TP304 and TP304L, which means that to take the intersection, the strength to meet the TP304 and TP304L, and the strength of the material to meet the TP304 and TP304L. That is to say to take the intersection, strength to TP304, and corrosion resistance to TP304L.
