ASTM A268 is Standard specification for Seamless and Welded Ferritic and Martensitic Stainless Steel Tubing for General Service, the grades contain TP410, TP405, TP420, TP430, TP430Ti, TP403, TP409, TP444, TP439 and TP446, it covers standard specification for a number of grades of nominal-wall-thickness, welded ferritic and martensitic stainless steel tubing for general corrosion-resisting and high-temperature service. ASME SA268 is alternative standard.
Stainless steel 430 combines good corrosion resistance with good formability and ductility, also has excellent resistance to nitric attack, which makes it well suited to use in chemical applications. The most popular applications for 430 are in domestic appliances and decorative trim.
A268 TP430 stainless steel tube
430 Stainless Steel is a low-carbon plain chromium ferritic stainless steel,with nominal 16% chromium it combines good corrosion resistance and heat and oxidation resistance up to 816℃ with good mechanical properties. Stainless steel 430 combines good corrosion resistance with good formability and ductility, also has excellent resistance to nitric attack, which makes it well suited to use in chemical applications. In the annealed condition the steel is ductile, does not harden excessively during cold work and can be formed using a large variety of roll forming or mild stretch-bending operations, as well as the more common drawing and bending processes.
Type 430 stainless is one of the most widely used of non hardenable ferritic stainless steels,has limited weldability and should not be used in the as welded condition for dynamic or impact loaded structures. Being a ferritic material, 430 is liable to brittle fracture at sub-zero temperatures, and cannot be used in cryogenic applications.
430 stainless steel is the most popular of all the straight chrome stainless steel.The most popular applications for 430 are in domestic appliances and decorative trim. Because of its excellent heat and corrosion resistant properties, its ductility and because it costs less than the chrome-nickel grades, this Type 430 stainless steel is used in countless applications. These uses are primarily for stainless and decorative purposes including household appliances, metal molding, metal trim, cabinet hardware, hinges, drawn and formed parts and stampings.
