What is ASME SB167 Alloy 600 seamless tube?
General or uniform corrosion is a common problem for steels containing iron or very high iron content. However, in alloys containing chromium, such as ASTM B167 UNS N06600 Seamless Tubes, corrosion is kept to a minimum as the alloy forms a passivated layer, thus effectively reducing the risk of corrosion. Corrosion can accelerate depending on several parameters, including the medium used, exposure to moisture or oxygen, or an increase in heat.
Exposure to oxygen in the air is known as atmospheric corrosion, and this corrosion can escalate if the temperature rises. However, due to the high content of both nickel and chromium in ASTM B167 seamless steel tubes, the ability to resist corrosion is critical for such applications. Under the ASTM B167 specification, chemical analysis is typically performed on nickel alloy SB 167 pipe to check that the alloy meets the specified chemical composition. In addition to chemical analysis, the specification includes mechanical property requirements, including testing of Inconel 600 Astm B167, such as nondestructive electrical testing and roundness methods.
In addition, tensile and yield strengths and elongation are mechanical properties that must be met for Astm B167-08 tubes. The use of nickel alloys is appreciated in some applications because nickel alloy Astm B167-11 tubes lose neither their mechanical properties nor their corrosion resistance, although ordinary steel can easily fail in the presence of highly corrosive media. According to the specification, Astm B167 tubes can be treated, e.g. cold worked or hot worked annealed, or the alloy can be treated using hot work.
