Due to the inefficiency of stainless steel and other materials in many cases, titanium tubes and pipes are increasingly being used in a myriad of applications. A common titanium mill product is titanium tubing, which is used in a variety of products due to its superior corrosion resistance and strength-to-weight ratio. The development of many different alloys has expanded the use of titanium in industries ranging from industrial and chemical processing to power generation.
The American Society of Mechanical Engineers has approved most grades of titanium, which means more options for a variety of projects. While grades 1, 2, 3, 7, 9 and 11 are available, Grade 2 is suitable for most situations. the ready availability of Grade 2 makes it the material of choice for rapid production and larger orders.
Before choosing any grade, it is vital to determine exactly how a grade will be used. grades 7, 12, 16 or 26 can be used to make titanium pipes for use in areas where greater corrosion resistance is required. grades 3 and 12 may be the material of choice for pipes requiring greater strength.
