ASTM A815 encompasses two main classes, WP and CR, of stainless steel fittings made of wrought ferritic, ferritic/austenitic, and martensitic materials, available in both seamless and welded construction. Class WP fittings are further divided into four subclasses: WP-S, WP-W, WP-WX, and WP-WU. The fittings can be made from forgings, bars, plates, or seamless/welded tubular products.
The steel used for these fittings is melted using electric furnaces, vacuum furnaces, or electric furnaces followed by vacuum or electroslag-consumable remelting. Forging or shaping operations can be carried out through methods such as hammering, pressing, piercing, extruding, upsetting, rolling, bending, fusion welding, machining, or a combination of two or more of these techniques.
