ASTM A403 stainless steel pipe fittings refers to forged and rolled austenitic stainless steel pipe fitting materials for pressure pipes. Common grades include WP304/L and WP316/L. They are used in the engineering industry, energy conversion plants and many other areas.
ASTM A403 standard scope
The standard covers multiple grades of austenitic stainless steel alloys and uses the WP or CR prefix to designate steel grades according to the applicable ASTM or MSS size and pressure class standards.
ASTM A403 is designed for forged steel pipe fittings, cast pipe fittings are not suitable. (Austenitic stainless steel castings are covered by these standards A351/A351M, A743/A743M, and A744/A744M.)
WP grade stainless steel pipe fittings
Materials under this standard are designated as WP grades, and for each WP grade of stainless steel, several categories of fittings are included to indicate seamless or welded construction. Class names are also used to indicate nondestructive testing methods and the scope of nondestructive testing (NDE).
