1. Basic definition of  TP316/TP316L

TP316 and TP316L are both molybdenum-reinforced austenitic stainless steels. They are upgraded and evolved from the 18Cr-12Ni alloy system. By adding 2-3% molybdenum, the resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion is significantly improved. They are the two most widely used low-carbon/ultra-low-carbon variants in the 316 series stainless steel family.

Key difference: TP316L strictly controls the carbon content below 0.03%, fundamentally solving the risk of intergranular corrosion in the sensitization range (425-

860℃), and is suitable for thick-walled welded parts and long-term high-temperature service environments.
