ASTM B283 C70620 Copper Nickel Alloy Flange for Chemical Industry
ASTM B283 C70620 Copper Nickel Alloy Flange for Chemical Industry
ASTM B283 specification establishes the requirements for copper and copper alloy die forgings produced by the hot pressing method. Flanges are typically manufactured from forging stock (plate, bar, etc.) that meets the requirements of ASTM B283 through hot forging or cold forging followed by heat treatment. Forging refines the grain size, improving the material's density and mechanical properties.
ASTM B283 C70620 copper nickel alloy flanges offer a long service life in seawater environments, low maintenance costs, and excellent resistance to seawater corrosion and erosion, making them suitable for high-velocity seawater. ASTM B283 C70620 copper nickel alloy flange also exhibits excellent biodegradability, minimizing system clogging and performance degradation. Its excellent machinability and weldability also make the flanges easy to manufacture and install.

Comparison of ASTM B283 C70620 Copper Nickel Alloy with Other Materials
- VS High-Grade Stainless Steel or Nickel-Based Alloys: In most seawater applications, ASTM B283 C70620 is the most cost-effective choice. Only in extreme environments with extremely high temperatures, high chloride concentrations, or the presence of more oxidizing media should more expensive 625 alloy or super stainless steel be considered.
- VS 316L Stainless Steel: While 316L may be acceptable in flowing seawater, it is highly susceptible to pitting and crevice corrosion in stagnant, low-velocity, or contaminated water. ASTM B283 C70620 flanges offer significantly more stability, and marine growth resistance is a clear advantage of this copper alloy.
ASTM B283 C70620 Typical Application Areas
- Marine and Offshore Engineering: ASTM B283 C70620 alloy flanges are one of the preferred materials for ship seawater cooling systems, fire protection systems, ballast water systems, and seawater piping systems. They are primarily used for inlet and outlet flanges of pumps, valves, and heat exchangers.
- Desalination Plants: In desalination plants, ASTM B283 C70620 alloy flanges are used for seawater intake, pretreatment, high-pressure pump inlet and outlet flanges, and for reverse osmosis membrane housing connections.
- Coastal Power Plants: In coastal power plants, ASTM B283 C70620 alloy flanges are used for condenser and cooler connection flanges in seawater cooling circulation systems, as well as for seawater pump inlet and outlet flanges.
- Offshore Oil and Gas Platforms: In offshore oil and gas platforms, ASTM B283 C70620 is used for flange connections in seawater injection systems, fire protection water systems, ballast water systems, and utility seawater systems.
- Chemical and Process Industries: ASTM B283 C70620 is an excellent flange for working environments that require handling chloride-containing media or seawater conditions.
