ASTM A213 TP321H Stainless Steel Heat Exchanger Tube Bright Annealed
ASTM A213 TP321H Stainless Steel Heat Exchanger Tube Bright Annealed
ASTM A213 is a standard developed by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) specifically for "Seamless Ferritic and Austenitic Alloy Steel Tubing for Boilers, Superheaters, and Heat Exchangers." TP321H is a stainless steel with added titanium that meets the high-temperature mechanical properties specified in the ASTM A213 standard.
The manufacturing process for ASTM A213 TP321H seamless stainless steel bright tube begins with perforation and extrusion. The round billet is heated and perforated to form a rough tube. The rough tube is then cold-drawn or cold-rolled through a die to achieve precise dimensions, wall thickness, and a smooth surface. This process hardens the tube. To achieve a bright finish, the tube is annealed in a furnace evacuated to a high vacuum or in a protective atmosphere such as hydrogen or argon to relieve stress and prevent oxidation. Finally, the tube undergoes finishing and inspection, including straightening, cutting to length, nondestructive testing, and hydrostatic testing.

Differences between ASTM A213 TP321H and Standard TP321 and TP304H
- V.S. TP321: Standard 321 has a lower carbon content (≤0.08%), with no lower limit requirement. It focuses more on intergranular corrosion resistance but does not guarantee high-temperature strength. Therefore, it cannot directly replace TP321H for ASME-compliant high-temperature, pressure-containing components.
- V.S. TP304H: 304H is also a high-carbon grade (0.04-0.10%) of 304 stainless steel, offering excellent high-temperature strength. However, it lacks titanium, so there is still a risk of intergranular corrosion if equipment operates within the sensitization temperature range. TP321H offers both high-temperature strength and intergranular corrosion resistance.
