ASTM A182 F11 CL2 Alloy Steel Forged Sockolet for High Pressure Service
A Sockolet is a type of branch connection fitting manufactured by a company called Bonney Forge (now part of PCC Energy Group). The name has become generic, much like "Kleenex" for tissues. It is used to create a 90-degree branch from a main run pipe without the need for a separate tee fitting.
- Design: It has a socket-weld outlet on the branch side and a butt-weld connection on the run side (the header). The branch pipe is inserted into the socket and fillet-welded.
- Purpose: It provides a strong, reinforced branch connection that is ideal for small-bore piping (typically NPS 2" and below) in high-pressure systems. It is more compact and offers better flow characteristics than a threaded coupling or a saddle-type connection.
