The ASTM A249 TP316L welded stainless steel bright annealed tube is the preferred choice for superheater sections in boilers and heat recovery steam generators. A superheater's function is to heat saturated steam beyond its boiling point to create superheated steam, which improves thermal efficiency and turbine performance. This environment demands tubes that can withstand internal high-pressure, external high-temperature flue gases, and potential corrosive condensates. The combination of TP316L's chemistry and the bright annealing process makes these tubes exceptionally resistant to oxidation, creep, and pitting/crevice corrosion in such demanding conditions. - Excellent Corrosion Resistance: SS316L (with 2-3% Molybdenum) offers superior resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion from chlorides and acidic condensates in superheaters.
- Low Carbon Content (<0.03%): The formation of chromium carbides at grain boundaries during welding or high-temperature service – thereby maintaining corrosion resistance in the heat-affected zone.
- High-Temperature Strength: Good mechanical strength and oxidation resistance at sustained temperatures up to ~870°C (intermittent use).
- Smooth, Clean Surface: The BA finish minimizes friction, improves heat transfer, reduces scaling/fouling, and is easy to clean. It also serves as a natural barrier to corrosion initiation.
