ASTM B564 UNS N04400 Weld Neck Flange Monel 400 Flange Nickel Copper Alloy WNRTJ Flange
ASTM B 564 UNS N04400 / Monel 400 WNRTJ Flange Nickel-Cooper Alloy Weld Neck Flange
This is a high-integrity, forged pipe connector manufactured from Nickel-Copper Alloy UNS N04400 (Monel 400) under ASTM B564 forging specifications. It features a long tapered hub (Weld Neck) designed for butt-welding to the pipe, combined with a Ring Type Joint (RTJ) grooved face—engineered to accept a solid metallic gasket for a critical, metal-to-metal seal in extreme-pressure and highly corrosive industrial services.
- Excellent Resistance to: Seawater, brackish water, hydrofluoric acid, sulfuric acid (reducing conditions), and neutral salts.
- High Resistance to: Stress-corrosion cracking (SCC) in chlorides.
- Caution: Not recommended for oxidizing acids (e.g., nitric acid) or heavily oxidizing conditions where passivity breaks down.

Manufacturing & Heat Treatment
-
Forging Process: The billet is heated and forged to refine the grain structure.
-
Heat Treatment: Annealed at 1,300 – 1,600 °F (704 – 871 °C) followed by rapid cooling (water quench) to ensure consistent grain size and optimal corrosion resistance.
-
Machining: RTJ grooves must be machined to a specific roughness (generally 63–125 Ra microinches) to ensure proper gasket seating.
-
NDE (Non-Destructive Examination): Usually subjected to Liquid Penetrant (PT) or Magnetic Particle (MT) inspection as per ASME Section V, often with 100% visual and dimensional checks.
Application
-
Marine Engineering: Offshore platforms, shipbuilding (seawater piping).
-
Chemical/Petrochemical: HF alkylation units, sour gas processing (H₂S).
-
Oil & Gas: Wellhead equipment, Christmas trees, high-pressure manifolds.
-
Aerospace & Power: Fuel tanks, feedwater heaters.
