ASTM B366 WPNC Elbow UNS N04400 / Monel 400 Buttweld Pipe Fittings 90 Degree LR Elbow
Monel 400 Pipe Fittings , ASTM B366 uns n04400 / WPNC-WX Nickel Alloy 90 Degree LR Elbow
An ASTM B366 WPNC Elbow is a factory-made, wrought pipe fitting used to permanently change the direction of fluid flow in a piping system by 90 degrees. It is manufactured from Monel 400 (UNS N04400) nickel-copper alloy, adheres to the stringent material and testing requirements of the ASTM B366 standard, and features a Long Radius (LR) design (center-to-end dimension equal to 1.5 times the Nominal Pipe Size, or NPS). The ends are beveled for butt-welding directly to matching pipes. These elbows are typically manufactured via hot-forming (induction bending or pressing of seamless/welded pipe) followed by annealing and pickling to restore the optimal corrosion-resistant microstructure.

If you have an ASTM B366 WPNC 90° LR Elbow, it is the perfect fit for:
A high-pressure, high-velocity seawater cooling line on an offshore oil platform, OR a hot concentrated caustic soda transfer line in a chemical plant, OR the hydrofluoric acid regeneration loop in an alkylation refinery unit, operating between -50°F and 750°F, where carbon steel would corrode within weeks and 316 stainless would crack from chlorides.
Applications
Because Monel 400 resists stress-corrosion cracking and is highly resistant to reducing acids, this specific elbow is used in critical, harsh environments, including:
-
Marine Engineering: Shipbuilding and seawater cooling lines (resists biofouling and chloride pitting).
-
Chemical Processing: Hydrofluoric acid (HF) alkylation units, chlorinated solvents, and sulfuric acid vessels.
-
Oil & Gas: Sour gas service (resists sulfide stress cracking) and offshore platforms.
-
Aerospace & Heat Exchangers: Fuel tanks and high-temp transfer lines.
