1. Housing (Insulator):
  • Material: PBT is a high-performance thermoplastic chosen for its excellent thermal stability, mechanical strength, and electrical insulation properties.
  • Grade: The UL94 V-0 rating is a critical safety standard, indicating that the material will self-extinguish within 10 seconds after the flame source is removed and will not produce flaming drips.

 

2. Contacts (Pins):
  • Material: Copper Alloy (specifically Phosphor Bronze) is used for its high conductivity, good elasticity, and fatigue resistance, ensuring a reliable connection over many mating cycles.
  • Plating:

Selective Gold (Au): A thin layer of gold is applied to the critical contact mating area. Gold is used because it is highly resistant to corrosion and oxidation, ensuring a low-resistance, stable electrical connection over time.

Nickel (Ni) Underplating: A layer of nickel is applied beneath the gold. This underplate serves as a barrier to prevent the copper from migrating into the gold layer and also enhances the overall durability and corrosion resistance.

 
3. Shield:
