Internal cutters are specialized downhole tools designed to cut tubing and casing from the inside. Available in both hydraulic and mechanical configurations, these precision instruments deliver reliable performance in demanding oilfield operations.
Mechanical Internal Cutter Components
The mechanical cutter features a comprehensive assembly including:
- Wiper Block (Drag Spring) assembly for pipe setting
- Slips and Cone assembly for anchoring
- Main Spring for uniform knife feed control
- Knife Blocks for driving knives upward and outward
- Precision-ground knives for efficient pipe cutting
Hydraulic Internal Cutter Operation
The hydraulic cutter utilizes pump pressure to actuate three carbide-coated knives, capable of cutting single and multiple pipe strings from 4 inches to 36 inches O.D. Each cutter size can be configured with different knife lengths to accommodate various pipe dimensions.
