Product Overview
AISI 4340 is a heat-treatable low alloy steel containing 0.8% Cr, 0.2% Mo and 1.8% Ni as strengthening elements. Compared to AISI 4140, it offers superior strength, toughness, fatigue resistance, wear resistance, and atmospheric corrosion resistance. Typically supplied in hardened and tempered condition with tensile strength of 930-1080 MPa and hardness of 280-320 HB.

Heat Treatment Specifications
- Forging: 1150°C-1200°C, minimum 850°C
- Normalizing: 850°C-880°C, air cooling
- Annealing: 830°C-850°C, furnace cooling
- Hardening: 830°C-865°C, oil quench
- Tempering: 450°C-660°C, air cooling
