DIN 1.6587 / 18CrNiMo7-6 is a premium case-hardening alloy steel containing chromium, nickel, and molybdenum as strengthening agents. This material delivers exceptional core strength and toughness in medium to large sections, with case hardness up to Rc62 after carburizing, hardening, and tempering processes.

Processing & Heat Treatment
Forging Parameters
Optimal forging temperature: 900-1100°C. Recommended to cool slowly in sand after forging.
Heat Treatment Cycles
- Normalizing: 850-880°C/air
- Soft annealing: 650-700°C/furnace
- Stress relief: 630-650°C
- Carburizing: 880-980°C
- Core hardening: 830-870°C/water
- Case hardening: 780-820°C/water
- Tempering: 150-200°C
Surface Hardness Ranges
- Treated to improve shearability (+S): Max 255 HB
- Soft annealed (+A): Max 229 HB
- Treated to hardness range (+TH): 179-229 HB
- Treated to ferrite-pearlite structure (+FP): 159-207 HB
