Pt-iridium wire is a platinum-based binary alloy containing selenium. It is a continuous solid solution at high temperature. When slowly cooled to 975~700 ºC, solid phase decomposition occurs, but the phase equilibrium process proceeds very slowly. It can significantly improve the corrosion resistance of platinum due to its easy volatilization and oxidation. There are Ptlr10, Ptlr20, Ptlr25, Ptlr30 and other alloys, with high hardness and high melting point, high corrosion resistance and low contact resistance, the chemical corrosion rate is 58% of pure platinum, and the oxidation weight loss is 2.8mg/g. It is a classic electrical contact material. Used for high ignition contacts of aero-engines, electrical contacts of relays with high sensitivity and Wei motors; potentiometers and conductive ring brushes of precision sensors such as aircraft, missiles and gyroscopes
Widely used in chemical plants, filaments, spark plugs

Platinum-iridium (Pt-Ir) alloy wire is a type of metallic wire made from an alloy of platinum and iridium. This alloy is known for its excellent corrosion resistance, high melting point, and outstanding mechanical properties. Some key features of platinum-iridium alloy wire include:
-
Composition: Platinum-iridium alloys typically contain around 90% platinum and 10% iridium, although the exact composition can vary depending on the application.
-
Corrosion Resistance: The addition of iridium to platinum significantly improves the alloy's resistance to corrosion, making it suitable for use in harsh environments or applications that require high chemical stability.
-
Mechanical Properties: Pt-Ir alloy wire exhibits high tensile strength, hardness, and wear resistance compared to pure platinum. This makes it useful for applications that require durable, long-lasting components.
-
Electrical Properties: Platinum-iridium alloy wire has good electrical conductivity and is often used in electrical contacts, electrodes, and other components that require a combination of electrical and mechanical performance.
-
High-Temperature Performance: The alloy's high melting point, typically around 2,000°C, allows it to maintain its integrity at elevated temperatures, making it suitable for use in high-heat applications such as furnace elements, spark plugs, and laboratory equipment.
Platinum-iridium alloy wire finds applications in a variety of industries, including electronics, aerospace, scientific instrumentation, and medical devices, where its unique properties are valued.
