Product Overview

Thermal bimetal strip is a composite material consisting of two or more layers of metal or alloy with different expansion coefficients, solidly bonded together. This construction enables shape changes in response to temperature variations along the entire interface. The high expansion coefficient layer serves as the active layer, while the low expansion coefficient layer functions as the passive layer. When high resistivity is required while maintaining similar thermal sensitivity, an intermediate layer of varying thickness can be added between the two primary layers to serve as a shunt layer, achieving the desired resistivity control.

Manufacturing Process

The key manufacturing process for thermal bimetal involves the composite technology between each layer. Common composite methods include hot rolling, cold rolling, explosion bonding, and double pouring molten methods. Hot rolling is the most commonly used method, where each layer of slab is compounded at high temperatures with significant hot rolling, followed by cold rolling. The cold rolling method produces the highest quality products, where different alloy layer slabs are compounded at room temperature with large reduction cold rolling, then processed through conventional cold rolling. Thermal bimetal is typically supplied in strip or sheet form.
