Product Description
0.1mm Constantan Alloy - Low Carbon, High Elongation Capacity, 420 MPa Tensile Strength
Specialized Size Constantan/6J40 Precision Resistance Alloy Foil/Strip/Sheet
Constantan is one of the most widely used alloys due to its optimal combination of properties essential for strain gauge applications. It features the highest resistivity among comparable alloys, making it insensitive to strain levels and temperature variations. The exceptionally high resistivity enables suitable resistance levels even in very small grids, while maintaining a manageable temperature coefficient of resistance.
Constantan offers excellent fatigue life and high elongation capacity, making it highly useful for demanding applications. However, users should note that the alloy exhibits drift at temperatures around 65°C, which is critical when testing gauge stability strain at this temperature range.

Constantan Applications
Temperature Measurement
Constantan is used in thermocouple formation with copper, iron, and chromel wires. It is particularly valuable in chromel-constantan and iron-constantan thermocouple configurations.
Heavy Duty Industrial Rheostats
Constantan serves as an ideal alloy for electric motor starter resistances and heavy-duty industrial rheostats. Its high specific heat resistance and excellent ductility meet critical specifications for these applications, often being formed into large-sized wires.
Wire Wound Precision Resistors
Constantan is extensively used in wire wound precision resistors, volume control devices, and temperature-stable potentiometers. Its negligible temperature coefficient and high resistance make it particularly attractive for these precision applications.
High Thermal E.M.F. Development
Constantan develops high thermal electromotive force against other metals, making it valuable in thermocouple alloys when paired with metals like iron and copper.
