Ruby is the hardest material selected for coil winding nozzle entrance and exit components. Its single crystal (mono crystalline) structure enables diamond polishing to achieve a mirror finish unmatched by other materials, significantly reducing friction and protecting the wire during winding operations.
Ruby Nozzle Performance Considerations
The body of a ruby tipped nozzle is typically constructed from stainless steel tubing. The longitudinal grains inherent to hard drawn steel tubes can form bulges in the bore when bent and straightened. Upon impact, the ruby tip may fracture or break, potentially causing invisible damage that can harm the wire. Any ruby nozzle that has experienced impact should be replaced.
