Super Duplex 2507 Stainless Steel Seamless Pipe ASTM A790 High Corrosion Resistance for Oil Gas
Super Duplex 2507 Stainless Steel Seamless Pipe ASTM A790 High Corrosion Resistance for Oil Gas
1. Product Description
Duplex stainless steel pipe is a high-performance tubular product with a balanced austenitic-ferritic microstructure. The phase ratio is typically controlled to 40–60% ferrite and 60–40% austenite. This metallurgical design delivers a yield strength that is approximately twice that of standard 300-series austenitic grades, while maintaining acceptable ductility and toughness. Common product forms include seamless (SMLS) and longitudinally welded (EFW/ERW) pipes, available in a wide range of diameters and schedules. Major specifications cover ASTM A789 (general seamless/welded), ASTM A790 (seamless/welded for high-temperature service), and ASME SA790 for pressure vessel applications.
2. Product Applications
Beyond the traditional oil & gas and chemical sectors, duplex pipes are increasingly specified in the following demanding applications:
-
Subsea umbilicals and flowlines – where high collapse resistance and fatigue life are critical.
-
Desalination plants (MSF & RO) – for brine heater tubes and high-pressure membrane feed lines.
-
FGD (Flue Gas Desulfurization) systems – in coal-fired power plants, handling aggressive chloride-laden slurries.
-
Hydrocarbon processing with CO₂/H₂S – sour service environments conforming to NACE MR0175/ISO 15156.
-
Structural and architectural components – where high strength-to-weight ratio reduces support steelwork.
-
Shipbuilding and repair – for ballast water treatment systems and seawater cooling pipelines.
3. Product Advantages
-
Weight savings up to 35% – thanks to higher design stress allowables, reducing material cost and structural load.
-
Excellent resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion – PREN values from 34 (2304) to 43+ (2507) enable use in seawater up to 50°C without cathodic protection.
-
Lower thermal expansion and higher thermal conductivity – reduces thermal fatigue risks and improves heat exchange efficiency.
-
Good resistance to erosion-corrosion and cavitation – beneficial for high-velocity flow conditions.
-
Economical alloy design – with lower Ni and higher N, duplex grades are less dependent on expensive nickel, offering more stable pricing.
-
Easy inspection and maintenance – good magnetic response allows simple ferrite-content checks and weld quality verification.
