White powder insoluble in water and cold ethanol, soluble in organic solvents including hot benzene and turpentine, slightly soluble in hot ethanol. Decomposes slowly at 400°C with flammable characteristics. Hygroscopic properties with decomposition into stearic acid and corresponding calcium salts when exposed to strong acids.
