Modern surfboards are made of polyurethane or polystyrene foam covered with layers of fiberglass cloth, and polyester or epoxy resin.
 
Fiberglass fabrics with different weave, surface treatment, and specification used as the reinforcement in a plastic matrix. When combined with a resin system the resulting composite material forms the "skin" of the surfboard.
 
Fiberglass fabrics are woven from yarns of glass filaments. There are two types of glass which are used for surfboard fiber glass cloth, E-glass and S-glass. E-glass is the most common glass fiber fabric and is produced in huge quantities. S-glass is more expensive but has higher physical strength properties than E-glass. The tensile strength of S-glass is about 50% higher than E-glass, meanwhile it is 25% stiffer in flex. Using S-glass reduces heel dings and prolongs the life of the board.
 
Unionfull produces this surfboard cloth in plain or twill woven and has twill 4oz, 6oz and 8oz e-glass fiberglass cloth in stock. So twill weave will be more economical and with less delivery time. Twill weave is with a pattern of diagonal parallel ribs (in contrast with satin and plain weave). Each weft(or filling) yarn weave across the warp yarns in a progression of interweaves into the right or left, forming a pattern of distinct diagonal lines. The twill weave is more pliable than the plain and has better drapability.
 
The width which is in stock is 70cm width for 4oz fabric, 80cm width for 6oz fabric and 80cm width for 8oz fabric. They are common specification for surfboard building, which can meet most customers' requirements.
 
Except for surfboard production, 6oz giberglass fabric can be used in other fields. For example, it can be coated to meet special application such as waterproofing, electrical insulation or chemical resistance. It also can be used for septic tank, fabric ducts and fire blankets production. Now it is classified as a separate series for sport euipment building: 4oz, 6oz, 8oz, 7628 and other light weight fabrics, which is always used for sports euipment products such as snowboard, surfboard and skimboard building.
