Product Description
Screen printed glass has many applications in the architectural/construction industries. Common uses include construction glass (building glass), facades, glass doors (entry and shower), mirrors and alarm/security glass.
Screen printing is a viable option for many of the applications today because it can apply relatively thick ink deposits (full surface or image) ranging from 5 to 60 microns (thicker deposits are often required for opacity/ privacy or electronic security purposes).
Screen printing construction glass is integrated into the manufacturing process. Prior to printing, the glass goes through cutting, grinding and cleaning processes. Cleanliness and correct climate conditions are required during printing, and therefore, presses are located in separate rooms—and gloves must be worn to protect the glass from dirt, dust and human oils.
After the glass has been printed, the ink is cured in a lehr at a temperature of 600° C (for glass enamels), which fuses the printed layer with the glass surface for permanent characteristics. Print runs vary from a single window to thousands of pieces.
Mesh selection
Dimensionally stable, high tension/low elongation mesh, like PET 1500, is recommended for printing construction glass. With a wide range of mesh specifications, the PET 1500 product line has an optimum mesh for each and every construction glass application.
