Aluminum anodes are used particularly within marine vessel cathodic protection against corrosion in chlorinated environment. The Application fields that are used effectively are sea platforms, ship hulls, storage tanks inside, underwater pipes, piers, crude oil storage tanks with chlorine ionsin the inner surfaces of structures exposed to corrosion The chemical composition of the aluminum plate is the most important factor on anode performance. Aluminum anodes are available with different compositions. Aluminum is the most commonly used anode with indium added alloy . By adding indium passive layer on the anode surface is dissolving, the active indium means continuously provides the back surface to serve as the anode. How to choose anti corrosion anodes :
- Zinc Alloy Anodes = Salt water only
- Not recommended for use in fresh water
- Alloy is manufactured to meet or exceed US Military Specification (MIL-A-18001K)
- Aluminum Alloy Anodes = Salt or Brackish water
- Not recommended for use in fresh water
- Proven to last longer than zinc due to increased capacity
- Alloy is manufactured to meet or exceed US Military Specification (MIL-A-24779(SH))
- Magnesium Alloy Anodes = Fresh water only
- Not recommended for use in salt or brackish water
- The only alloy proven to protect your boat in fresh water
