Niobium and niobium alloy bars are used as structural materials for rockets and rocket nozzles, reactor internal components and cladding materials to produce a variety of corrosion resistant parts for nitric acid, hydrochloric acid or sulfuric acid corrosion. The addition of zirconium to niobium significantly improves the oxidation resistance and strength of the material. Niobium and niobium-zirconium alloy wire is used extensively for the manufacture of high pressure sodium and electrolytic capacitors.
