During equipment assembly, single-row bearings can be “set”to the required clearance (endplay) or preload condition to optimize performance.

Single row tapered roller bearing
These bearings are constructed to have a high capacity for radial loads,
axial loads, and combined loads. The larger the contact angle, the
greater the axial load capacity becomes. When a pure radial load is
placed on the bearings, an induced load in the axial direction is also
generated, and so these bearings are generally used in pairs arranged
face to face.
When used in pairs, proper internal clearances and preload can be set by
adjusting the distance between the two bearings' inner and outer rings.
Single row tapered roller bearings are separable, so both the inner and
outer rings can be used with tight fits.
Double-row tapered roller bearings
Because of more rows of rollers, the radial loading capacity of double-row tapered
roller bearings is enhanced,and they aslo can carry heavy axial loads in two directions.
They primarily carry combined loads which is main in radial, and limit axial displacement of shafts or housings in two directions, so they can be as locating bearings in twdirections.
The performance of type TDO bearing is the same as two single-row tapered roller
bearings in back to back mounted.
Doublerow tapered roller bearings have a small number of parts and high stiffness,and are easy to be mounted anddismounted, therefore, they are usually used in the applications with changing loads, such as decelerators and coiling machines. The radial and axial clearance can be adjusted by changing the width of spacer between two inner rings.
Type TDI bearing is mainly used in roll necks with medium loads.This type of bearings have a cup spacer,and the clearance isadjustable.
